Cook perfect hard boiled eggs that are easy to peel in just minutes in your Instant Pot. Great for quick snacks or on a salad.
Jump to RecipeIt’s always nice to have some hard boiled eggs on hand for quick snacks or to add to a salad, but they can be a pain to peel. Even when you use older eggs, the shells can stick to the eggs leaving you with a mess once you finally get them all off.

Even though it takes a bit longer to cook eggs in the Instant Pot since you have to wait for it to pressurize, they peel so easily, it is more than worth the extra few minutes. Plus, the Instant Pot doesn’t need to be constantly watched once you turn it on and there’s no risk of the eggs cracking against each other like they can in boiling water. Once you try this method, you’ll never go back to boiling eggs on the stove!
What You’ll Need to Make Hard Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot
- Eggs
- 1 Cup of Water
- Instant Pot
- Metal or Silicone Trivet
- Large Bowl of Ice Water

Tips
- Make sure the eggs are not overlapping in the Instant Pot or they will not cook evenly.
- I have the 6 quart Instant Pot Duo. If you have a different size Instant Pot or a different brand electric pressure cooker, your cooking times may be different.
- Hard boiled eggs will last 1 week in the fridge unpeeled, or 4 days peeled.
- For soft boiled eggs, follow the same basic directions but reduce the pressure cooking time to 3 minutes with a 3 minute natural release. The cooling time in the water bath will be the same.
- You do not need to use older eggs when making hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot. You will still be able to peel these eggs easily if you use a freshly bought batch.
- Sometimes an egg will crack while cooking. It is still perfectly edible so don’t feel like you need to throw any of these away.
- To peel a hard boiled egg, crack it all over and then gently roll it on a counter while pressing down slightly. The peel will come right off.

Hard Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot
Equipment
- Instant Pot
- Metal or Silicone Trivet
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Water
- 1 – 12 Large Eggs
Instructions
- Add 1 Cup of water to the inner pot insert in your Instant Pot. Place trivet into inner pot.
- Place eggs in an even layer on the trivet. Do not pile them up or they will not cook evenly. You can cook any amount of eggs up to a dozen.
- Close the lid of the Instant Pot and turn the steam release valve to "sealing". Set the Instant Pot to "Pressure Cook" on high pressure and adjust the cooking time to 5 minutes.
- After the Instant Pot has completed cooking, allow the pressure to naturally release for 5 minutes and then open the steam release valve to release any pressure still left.
- Once the float valve has dropped, open the lid and transfer the eggs to a large bowl filled with ice water. Allow the eggs to cool in the ice water for at least 5 minutes.
